2007 Match Reports -- Incomplete.

Hambleden vs Little Marlow-  Sunday July 8th
Match won

Another fine day greeted visitors Little Marlow to The Dene to play a 40 over per team match.  Having won the toss, the visitors chose to bat but were pinned down from the start by some very accurate bowling from S. Walker and T. Evans.  With 20 overs gone, the visitors had only 23 on the board and with wickets starting to tumble, Little Marlow struggled to reach a low total of just 72.  Hambleden's bowlers all contributed with J. Ogburn taking 3-20.

In reply, the home side started brightly with I. McDonough scoring quickly for his 26 before succumbing to the bowling of Tedham.  Brothers Ian and James Wright then knocked off the required runs for an emphatic eight wicket victory for the home side.

Hambleden vs Not The MCC - Saturday July 7th
Match lost

Hambleden, playing in this annual fixture against London touring side NTMCC, fielded first in this 40 over match.  Batting on a green wicket but against sunny skies for the first time in weeks, the visitors made a slow and shaky start losing 3 quick wickets off the bowling of S. Bradford and T. Evans.  The arrival of Father and Son batting duo of O. Bal and H. Bal changed the tempo with both batsmen scoring 50's off a depleted Hambleden attack.  Only Tom Evans with figures of 6-6 off 8 overs thanks to a late flurry of tail end wickets made any impact.

Hambleden's innings started slowly but steadily with openers D. Hansen and S. Francis putting 43 on the board without loss.  The departure of Hanson on 18 and Francis on 16 saw a middle order collapse before P. Rosier arrival steadied the innings.  S. Bradford was unlucky to be run out and the departure of S. Truman, caught behind off the bowling of O. Bal, meant the home team faced an uphill struggle to reach the visitor's total of 170.  S. Mattingly contributed a powerful 26 to put a late charge on in partnership with P. Rosier but with the departure of Rosier LBW for 39 saw the home side fail to reach the target, falling short by 33 runs.

Flackwell Heath vs Hambleden - Saturday 16th June
Match won

Surprisingly after the recent heavy rains, the pitch at Flackwell Heath was in a reasonably dry condition.  The home side, having won the toss, put Hambleden into bat and made a strong start reducing the visitors to 26-3 after 10 overs.  Once opener M. French was bowled for 22 and skipper I. McDounough bowled for 11, things did not look good for Hambleden.  The arrival of J. Ogbourne to the crease saw a change in fortunes with the young batsman going onto score an excellent 59 which included 11 fours.  Unfortunately for the visitors however, the remaining batsmen could not match Ogbourne's mastery of the Flackwell Heath attack with Hambleden ending on 130 all out.

The home side however started very badly with opener M. Brightwell out second ball of the innings to T. Evans, caught by C. Murton.  When no.3 batsman, K. Hoddel departed, clean bowled by S. Bradford, Flackwell's innings was in disarray.  Wickets then fell regularly with the home side finding runs difficult to come by.  No8. batsman S. Thuri, rode his luck scoring a much needed 54 but the rest of the home side failed to cope with an impressive Hambleden attack reaching just 110 all out.  The visitor?s best bowler was James Ottaway who returned figures of 8 overs, 3 maidens, 4 wickets for 15.

Hambleden vs Woodley - Sunday 10th June
Match won

On another very warm sunny day, Woodley were put into bat by Hambleden in a 40 over per team game.  With the pitch still recovering from the battering it took during May's foul weather, the visitors found it difficult to find runs.  After only eleven overs, Woodley found themselves at 7-45 with batsmen falling victim to an irregular bounce and a preponderance of shooters.    With M. Reeves coming to the wicket however, the scoring quickly accelerated before he was caught by James Wright for an excellent 56.  Hambleden's bowling attack, led by Sean Bradford's excellent 5 for 18 off 5 overs then saw off the Woodley tail leaving the visitors with only 109 runs on the board.

The Hambleden batting line up faired little better than the visitors with only 37 runs being added after 20 overs for the loss of 2 wickets.  An excellent unbeaten 44 from James Wright however helped to steer the home team to victory in a close finish with just one over remaining.

Hambleden vs Greys Green - Saturday 9th June
Match Lost

Batting first in glorious sunny conditions, Hambleden failed to capitalise on the conditions thanks to some tight bowling by the visitors.  After opener P. Rosier fell for just 4, the following batsmen never really troubled an accurate Greys Green attack with only D. Hansen (21) and S. Bradford (15) making any headway.  The home side finished its innings on 122-8 after its 40 overs.

The visitors also started slowly with opener G. Butler falling as first victim to D. Hansen who went on to return excellent figures of 6-19 off 14 overs.  Runs continued to be hard to find and with wickets falling regularly due to the irregularity of the pitch, the visitors were made to work hard for the required total.  The match was finely balanced as it entered the final over with the visitors requiring 12 to win from the last six balls.  M. Shafquat took to the challenge and won the match for Greys Green off the last ball of this thrilling encounter.

Hambleden vs Highmoor - Sunday 20th May
Match drawn

Put into bat on the Dene, Hambleden found it hard going against a combination of good Highmoor bowling and damp conditions. The recent rain had done little to improve the surface with several Hambleden players struggling to cope with the infamous Dene 'Shooters'.  With the exception of opener Sean Bradford who made 21 and no 4 batsman Simon Walker with 25, the Hambleden batting line up failed to provide a sufficient platform for victory with the home side ending their innings on 102 for 9.

Highmoor started cautiously and found runs difficult to come by.  Both openers fell cheaply but no 4 batsman Wells stood his ground scoring an invaluable 33 not out to set up a thrilling finish.  With wickets falling quickly, Highmoor required 2 runs off the last ball but only managed a scrambled single to tie the game.

Hambleden vs Crazies Hill - Sunday 6th May
Match lost

Put into bat in this 40 over match, Hambleden made a poor start losing the first four batsmen with only 28 runs on the board.  The arrival of Simon Walker at the crease saw the runs begin to flow.  Walker carried his bat for an impressive 52 not out supported by Ian McDonaugh's sprightly 18.  Hambleden ended the innings on 101 - a score that was to prove to be insufficient for a strong Crazies Hill batting line up.

Crazies Hill started strongly with openers Stuart and Ivores scoring quick runs to set up an easy victory for the visitors.  Stuart's 58 and Ivores' 41 almost saw Crazies home but with four over to go, Jamie Ottaway dispatched Ivores, caught behind by his brother Will Ottaway.  Another consolation wicket was taken by Singh before Crazies Hill completed an easy victory on the difficult Hambleden wicket.

Hamblden vs Archway Tavern - Saturday 5th May
Match won

Batting on their home ground against roving London side, Archway Tavern, Hambleden's opening pair of Phil Rosier and Gareth Bridges made a strong start.  Bridges was the first to fall caught off the bowling of Jennings for 21.  Rosier followed next, bowled by Jennings for 46.  With both openers gone and 98 on the board, Nick Arnold and Delaney Hanson took on the Archway bowlers with Arnold hitting a quick 20 and Hanson making a useful 28.  After this good start Hambleden wickets fell more quickly with the home side reaching tea on a respectable 172 for 7.

Archway's innings started badly and did not improve.  The visiting side found it a struggle against some accurate bowling by Geoff Mattingly and Sean Bradford.  With the exception of opener Butter who made 19, only one other batsman reached double figures with Archway all out for 67.

Highmoor vs Hambleden - Sunday 22nd April
Match drawn

On yet another warm spring day, Hambleden visited local team Highmoor CC.  Put into bat, Highmoor made a good start with opener P. Hayden scoring 44 before being caught by Sean Bradford off the bowling of Tom Evans.  Evans accounted for the other opener, O. Lovelock LBW for 19.  Highmoor then put on quick runs thorugh  Wells and Mayes with Wells carrying his bat for 28.  Wily spinner Tom Evans accounted for Mayes, bowled for 27.  At tea, Highmoor reached a respectable 150-5.

Hambleden's innings got off to a shaky start with opener Andy Miller caught on 15 and James Wright bowled for 2.  The remaining batting showed signs of the winter break with only Geoff Hynes and Mike French making any headway against some accurate Highmoor bowling.  Hynes was eventually caught for 20 and French caught for 24.  With wickets falling, Hambleden made the most of the timed game with tail enders Geoff Mattingley and Tom Evans surviving an amazing 12 overs to secure the draw.  Hambleden ended their innings on 95-4.
